We All Scream for Ice Cream!

The long wait is finally over – July is National Ice Cream Month. All those sweet happenings between last Thanksgiving and Christmas are now distant memories. Summer’s here, it’s HOT, and we’re all screaming for ice cream, right? Relax, I have the solution.

Anderson has a Bruster’s Real Ice Cream store at 3201 Martin Luther King Drive. Bruster’s is an American chain of ice cream parlors based in Bridgewater, PA, with over 200 independently owned stores in 22 states, Guyana, and South Korea. Since Bruster’s marks its 35th anniversary on July 13th, it is celebrating in a more meaningful way with several sweet month-long promotions:

  • Starting July 1, fans can enter to win free ice cream for a year online at brusters.com/sweeps.
  • From July 19 – 21 (National Ice Cream Day) double points will be awarded on fans’ purchases through the Sweet Rewards Loyalty Program.
  • Cookie Jar Crunch (a new flavor) will be introduced, and Birthday Cake (a classic flavor) will be brought back.

Speaking as a hopeless homemade ice cream addict for over 70 years now, this is all great news that one store regularly serves at least 24 fresh flavors rotated daily from a menu of over 150 flavors. They also serve artisan desserts (sundaes, freezes, and thick milkshakes.) These are all made the old-fashioned way – from premium ingredients and slow kettle processing in time-tested family recipes.

That’s the way my grandmother prepared ours using milk from Suki the cow, eggs from the hen house, and berries or small chunks from peaches hand-picked at the grocery store. I sat on a burlap bag atop the ice-covered mixture as my older cousins turned the freezer’s crank. Sharing fun and homemade ice cream memories happen daily at Bruster’s.

There is another great reason to patronize this successful Anderson small business: service. The service is excellent. That’s primarily because of Bruster’s written job requirements for all applicants:

  • Must possess and enjoy sharing a healthy smile
  • Must believe in teamwork and customer service
  • Must want to work in a fun atmosphere

The service is enhanced by online ordering, a rewards program, a drive-through, outdoor seating, free wi-fi, fundraising assistance, catering, and a free doggie Sunday for your furry pet.

Jennifer Brinker, Bruster’s Vice President of Marketing, sent the following comment, “Our recipe for success is staying true to our quality, using the finest ingredients, and crafting each batch with care. Coupling National Ice Cream Month with this significant milestone makes it an exciting time for the Bruster’s family.”

Anderson’s Assistant store manager, Madison, confirmed that the hot weather is already shaping this into the busiest year since she’s worked there. She also mentioned that Bruster’s is a great place to work and invites all ages to come share some sweet summer memories.
