Solo Exhibit “Do You See What I See?” Now Open

Local Artist opens an interactive family Art Exhibit

Coffeecup Paintings, Dr. Aubrey Coffee, Artist, announced today that her Solo Exhibit “Do You See What I See?” opened this week at Anderson County Library Pendleton Branch “Friends Gallery”. The exhibit is unusual in that the paintings are nameless and all are open for conversation and discussion between individuals of all ages.

The background for this exhibit came from an experience the Artist had working as a Vendor during one of the Pendleton’s Fall Festivals.  As an artist, you sometimes start with a concept that eventually evolves into a painting.  That concept remains throughout the process and eventually becomes the name of the painting. As an acrylic and fluid artist, some of her paintings were abstract and during the festival she knew what she saw and would tell the viewer. It took a while for the viewer to see what the artist saw.  As the festival continued, she noticed that people were seeing things differently from her.

What really convinced her about the tagline was a little boy who visited her tent with his mother.  He fell in love with one of the paintings and wanted it. As parents are, she acknowledged the painting and suggested that they walk around the rest of the festival to see what else was there.  Later in the day the little boy returned with his father and grandfather, and he went directly to the painting and said that this was what he wanted.  The artist remembered him and smiled.  The son was very firm on his decision even though his father tried to persuade him on some other ones. The three of them left with the little boy feeling a little dejected.

A little while later, the grandfather returned to see if he could negotiate between the three paintings that were discussed before, the one that the son wanted and the two that the father thought was a better deal. In the end, the son received the painting for Christmas without him knowing it was purchased and the other two went for a Christmas swap.

This exhibit is the result of that chance encounter with the little boy and his family.

In this interactive exhibit, explore the abstract world of the artist, where she pulls you into her consciousness with paintings that are organic, whimsical, playful, and full of bold colors that will have you asking, “what is the story behind each painting”.

The second part of this interactive exhibit is during the Artist Talk, where the Artist will explain what she sees in each of her paintings.
