Shop Small, Give Local: Anderson Magazine’s 2025 Holiday Gift Guide – Part 1 Early Shopping – Shop Local

Because the best gifts come wrapped in community spirit.

The holiday season in the Upstate brings a certain magic — crisp air, warm lights, and that unmistakable feeling of Southern hospitality. As we make our lists (and check them twice), there’s no better way to spread joy than by supporting the local businesses, makers, and causes that make Anderson and the Upstate shine.

This year, skip the crowded big-box stores and explore the heart of our hometown — where every purchase supports a neighbor, a dream, and a story worth sharing. In part one we highlight WHERE to shop. Part 2 will be some specific suggestions from our staff!

For the Baker & Chef

For those who measure love in cups and tablespoons, the Upstate is brimming with flavor.

  • Palmetto Distillery, Hollow Creek Distillery and others offer small-batch bourbon and moonshine that double as perfect flavor boosters for your holiday desserts.
  • Find infused olive oils, jams, and handmade kitchen goodies at The Kitchen Emporium & Gifts downtown.
  • Sweet tooths will love goodies from The Sweetery pre-ordered pecan pie wrapped with a bow.
  • For locally sourced flavor, Split Creek Farm’s goat cheese and honey baskets make for a perfect Southern sampler.

For the Animal Lover

Because our pets deserve to be on the “nice list,” too.

  • GELA Foundation’s logo gear gives back directly to animal rescue — or make a donation in a friend’s name to honor their furry family member.
  • Support the Anderson County Humane Society by sponsoring a spay or neuter in someone’s honor.
  • Or give the gift of pampering for the pup— a certificate from a local groomer or pet photographer always earns tail wags.

For the Fashionista

For the friend who believes sparkle is a season, not a trend.

  • Find holiday-ready outfits and cozy knits at Maren and Main or Colletique in downtown Anderson.
  • Pamper her with a GLAM Beauty Bar + Spa gift card — or Lather & Co. perfect for a starting the new year as a new you.
  • L. Mae Boutique in Clemson has game-day glam and winter layers for the style lover on your list.
  • Add a touch of local artistry with handmade jewelry or monogrammed scarves from area artisans and markets.

For the Homebody

If home is their happy place, give them something to make it even cozier.

  • Carolina Wren Park Market vendors and Boulevard Market offer handmade pottery, candles, and locally roasted coffee.
  • Treat someone special to a Bleckley Inn overnight stay or boutique candles from their gift shop.
  • Finch and Fern and Centerville Pickers Market in Anderson have décor and textiles that turn every room into a holiday retreat.
  • Don’t forget to add a Southern touch — magnolia leaves, cotton stems, and cinnamon sticks for a DIY holiday scent.

For the Kids (and Kids at Heart)

Joy is contagious — and Anderson’s local shops make it easy to spread.

  • Miss Lillie Children’s Boutique carries a sweet variety of goods.
  • Grab storybooks by local authors from McDowell’s Emporium or pick up history-themed gifts at the Anderson County Museum shop.
  • For memory-making instead of more “stuff,” give experiences — a skating night at the Skateland USA or a family trip to the Greenville Zoo.

For the Wellness & Self-Care Seeker

Help your loved ones pause, breathe, and refocus before the new year.

  • Sol Collective has yoga class packs, essential oils, and cozy wraps for mindful mornings.
  • The Healing Place in Spartanburg offers massage and chiropractic services for stress relief after the holiday rush.
  • Sip serenity with Flo’s Café  curated coffee gifts
  • For caregivers or families navigating aging care, connect them to Caroline Bell – Preparing for Care, Powered by Seniorly, for free resources and local support.

For the One Who Has Everything

When it feels impossible to find the “right” gift, give something that means something.

  • Donate to United Way of Anderson County’s Food Pantry or one their other campaigns of your choice.
  • Gift a membership to the Anderson Arts Center.
  • Sponsor an animal rescue or foster – some local suggestions – Anakin’s Trails, Anderson County Humane Society, Freedom Fences, GELA Foundation.
  • Or visit a local holiday market — the perfect place to find one-of-a-kind treasures crafted right here in the Upstate.

The true magic of the season isn’t in what we buy — it’s in how we give. Each locally made candle, cookie, and keepsake carries the heart of our community. So this year, shop small, give big, and make your holidays a little more Anderson.  Part 2 coming in December.
