Some folks swear by Global Warming and others use the Farmers’ Almanac- but in reality, none of us can control the weather, so if it is hotter than blazes (as it has been this summer) we just complain and say “Let’s get ready for fall.” It is a domino effect- the heat, the cool, the rain, the drought, the ice, the hurricanes, the accumulation of life. We are all so lucky to experience it. Besides what would a Clemson opening football game be without 90 plus degree heat and humidity and crowds of people sweating all over each other in the stands? Or maybe you prefer taking in a practice day of our shared Carolina Panthers Professional Football League in the Queen City now- instead of Wofford College in Spartanburg? I used to live for those night Carolina Panthers pre-season football games. We would arrive and tailgate in the same spot for 18 years and with the same folks. It became not only a tradition but a lifestyle. Hot, hot, hot and then to the stadium to be blinded by the sun until it set in the East End zone, and watching those games, and players who made it exciting then- with drive and care for the game and fans and a bit of a different attitude under the founding father, the late Jerry Richardson who actually brought the Carolina franchise to Charlotte. Food would not always be traditional, something different all the time, but there were the staples of iced tea, beer, wine, and water, and it that order. It is amazing how much I can remember now that we have relocated here- and the similar strand is still the HEAT. So, we may as well get over it and accept it- pass the water bottles, then you can partake in one of the adult beverages, or if you are under 21 feel free to grab a cold Coca-Cola, or of course some southern iced tea. And get excited- football season is less than a month away- with pre-season hitting us sooner than later. Watch your favorite high school teams, support the colleges around us and pull for the Carolina Panthers, they are due for a winning season by now. It has been while folks. Now be prepared, go for fancy Nancy sometimes, with grilled shrimp, chicken, or steak at the tailgate, or be simple Sally and do the famous hamburgers and hot dogs’ route. The most important thing to note is that all of it is memorable, fun, and good times!!
Is it a Heat Wave or Just Good Ole’ South Carolina?
