There are so many folks moving to the upstate that it is hard to know which direction to turn for medical care for us, much less our four-legged children. Well, I have the answer. Walker Canine Care located at 3810 Highway 81 north in Anderson, South Carolina. No, it is not one of those large clinics with multiple changing vets and owned by a large corporation. Welcome to a small hometown office, clean, caring, and convenient. The best thing in my eyes is that Dr. Jackson Walker is young- so he will not be retiring anytime soon- and that is good news, as I am routine centered, and he fits the bill. Now for a little background on the young man behind the door. In fact, I wonder if he remembers that the first time, I met him he paid me the best compliment ever- that I reminded him of his Mom. Well now, let’s start at his beginning.

Jackson Walker’s journey in veterinary medicine began with a deep fascination and love for all animals as a child. I picture his very first confidantes were some four-legged buddies. It is very apparent that he never let go of that passion which appears to have stayed with him today. First off, we can’t forget that he was a T.L. Hanna High graduate just down the road from his office. Then as an Anderson, South Carolina native, he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Anderson College, where he received the Physics Award in 2004 and the Chemistry Award in 2005. He continued his education at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2009 with the Avery Equine Award. With extensive education and years of experience, he has honed these learned skills to provide exceptional care for dogs, the animal he is most enthusiastic about.
When I first met Jackson Walker, these skills came shining through. Here I had found a vet kind, knowledgeable, yet grounded in empathy and transparency. It is apparent he believes in building lasting relationships with his patients and their families. Jackson Walker would not invest the time he does in anything else other than making us feel valued and informed throughout our pet’s health journeys. By focusing exclusively on canine health, he has developed a deep understanding of breed-specific needs and conditions, offering the most effective and personalized care possible. The canine-exclusive model centers on intentional care in a calm and welcoming environment. It is under this model that each visit is thorough, personalized, and unrushed. Believe me, I have had to take his time on more than one occasion with my furry friends- and he has always been there.
As a small business owner and leader, Dr. Jackson Walker has also taken care to attract and draw a strong and caring staff. As we all know it is in the workplace, especially in owning one’s own business that a great deal of our waking hours are spent. This is why it becomes critical to work with like-minded individuals. The staff at Walker Canine Care fits this description by being made up of people who are enthusiastic about animals and others.
Jackson works a lot, but he also takes time to embrace family with his wife Lauren and two young children, as well as his personal four-legged companions. He can often be found outside spending time with his horse, Crackerjack. And when time allows, he enjoys hunting and saltwater fishing, and even a bit of flying. From the first time I met Jackson Walker, I could envision him doing all these things and even more. He is a smiling, caring and passionate individual trying to make his own mark on this world- through some of the earliest companions of his in life- dogs.
So, whether you are new to the area, a native like the vet himself, or simply wondering what to do for your four-legged friends- check them out, you will be glad you did. Most people consider their work- a job, and something to provide a means to the end. Jackson Walker doesn’t- he embraces his passion, and although there are days when things don’t always go as planned, emergencies happen, and life throws us a curve- he is living his dream and doing what he was meant to do.
