Cuts for Confidence: A Year Later

It has been a year since Anderson Magazine published the amazing story of Cuts for Confidence (CFC), a new nonprofit and its founder, David Kimbrell of Anderson. At that time, Kimbrell had recently taken all the legal steps to get the organization set up and to create a website.

In the summer of 2023, Kimbrell had begun offering free haircuts at the Bridge Center at 2403 West Whitner in Anderson to those experiencing homelessness. That first session only lasted two hours, but it was a first step. Other two-hour barbering sessions followed as word spread, and Kimbrell expanded his service to Anderson’s Labor of the Field Ministries, the Hope Mission, and the LOT Project. It became increasingly obvious that each haircut was more than a change in appearance. It was a step toward restoring confidence and sparking joy in the lives of those facing difficult times.

After recruiting barbers and hair stylists, Kimbrell began partnering with other missions, cosmetology schools, and barber schools. Now, one year later, he says he hardly has time to update his website. Here is a brief summary of where CFC stands after its first year:

  • Provided over 2,000 haircuts
  • Expanded into seven states
  • Over 300 volunteers signed up since January, 2025
  • Served several new children’s homes, foster homes, and expanded to some elementary schools in the state of Washington
  • Created a board of directors (currently seven people)
  • Opened almost one new state per month
  • At capacity with CFC’s current structure

Kimbrell continues to be a person to watch as he expands his compassionate services from coast to coast. Testimonials by volunteers from hairdressers and cosmetology schools plus those who benefit from CFC services clearly point to improved lives and more confident attitudes. Like all nonprofit organizations, there is strong competition for donation dollars desperately needed for supplies and other operational expenses.

David Kimbrell continues to tirelessly change lives in Anderson and from coast to coast. And who doesn’t want that for the greatest country on the planet? We can show our appreciation to this local hero to so many by making a donation of any amount to his website: cutsforconfidence.org.

We’ll check his progress again next June.
