Bloom Where You’re Planted

There is something about March that feels like a deep exhale.

The light lingers a little longer. The air softens. Buds begin to form quietly on branches that looked barren just weeks ago. Spring does not rush — it unfolds. And in that unfolding, it reminds us that growth rarely happens loudly. It happens steadily. Intentionally. With patience.

This month, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to flourish.

Flourishing isn’t about perfection. It isn’t about being the busiest, the loudest, or the most accomplished. It’s about alignment. It’s about tending to the roots beneath the surface — your health, your relationships, your purpose — so that when the season shifts, you’re ready to bloom.

That’s why I love Tandy Wickiser’s piece on growth in this issue. She doesn’t sugarcoat it. She reminds us that growth isn’t always gentle — it’s stretching, refining, sometimes even painful. Our routines get comfortable. Our nervous systems prefer the familiar, even when it keeps us stuck. But thriving requires more than survival. It requires intention. Tandy beautifully challenges us to take ownership of our thoughts, to choose purpose over distraction, and to commit to daily, sometimes difficult steps forward. It’s a powerful reminder that the life we dream about doesn’t magically appear — it’s built, one disciplined, courageous choice at a time.

Sometimes flourishing looks like committing to your wellness. Sometimes it looks like saying yes to adventure. Sometimes it looks like resting. And sometimes — it looks like friendship.

As this issue reaches you, I’ll be packing my bags for my 14th annual Girls Week — a tradition that has become one of the most life-giving parts of my year. There is something sacred about gathering with women who have walked through decades of life with you. Women who have seen you at your best and at your breaking points. Women who cheer loudly, laugh deeply, and tell the truth when you need it most.

Female friendships are a powerful force. They steady us. They sharpen us. They remind us who we are when the world feels noisy. In so many ways, the right circle helps you flourish.

This year’s adventure promises new memories, new stories, and likely a few unexpected twists — as they always do. Be sure to keep tabs on our social media for sneak peeks into the fun during our annual getaway. We’ll share behind-the-scenes moments, local finds, and a little laughter along the way. The full Girls Week feature will appear in our April issue — and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.

Speaking of adventure, this month’s Tank Away Getaway takes you to Winchester, Virginia — a charming destination layered in history, character, and unique experiences (including a few memorable sips and stunning views). If you’re feeling the pull of the open road, it just might inspire your next weekend escape.

We’re also proud to introduce you to Mrs. Clemson America in our latest Person to Watch feature — a woman leading with intention, service, and courage. Her message of empowerment and purposeful living feels especially fitting for a season defined by growth.

And because flourishing begins with caring for ourselves, we’ve included local fitness and wellness insights to help you move your body, strengthen your mindset, and embrace healthier rhythms this spring. There’s no better time to get outside, explore the Upstate, and rediscover the joy of simple adventure.

You’ll also find thoughtful creativity in this issue. Raen and Mary bring us a beautiful reflection in When Poets Gather, while Tandy explores the theme of growth — a timely reminder that transformation often begins beneath the surface long before it becomes visible.

March is a bridge month. It connects the stillness of winter with the energy of what’s ahead. It asks us to prepare, to plant, to nurture.

So wherever you find yourself this season, I encourage you to bloom where you are planted. Invest in your health. Nurture your friendships. Chase a small adventure. Start the thing you’ve been putting off. Water the relationships that water you back.

Spring is here. It’s your time to flourish.

With gratitude,
