Fireworks!

Smith Mountain Lake fireworks at Parkway Marina
Fireworks were on hand as expected this Independence Day weekend. Thanks partially to high gas prices, crowds were larger than expected.

Fireworks were the order of the day on Thursday, July 3rd at the Franklin County High School Cy Dillon Stadium.  A large crowd turned out for this year’s event thanks to all of the hard work by the Rocky Mount Rotary Club members.  The weather cooperated to make this a successful event.  Attendance was estimated to be the largest ever.  One likely reason was due to the high gasoline prices which prevented some from taking longer excursions away from home.

The annual Smith Mountain Lake fireworks at Parkway Marina on Saturday, July 5th also drew one of their largest crowds.  This event, though outside of Franklin County, draws a large audience from Franklin County and surrounding areas.  Live music by The Worx was the highlight of the evening, secondary to the fireworks display.  The start of the fireworks was pushed up a little due to threatening storm clouds that were rapidly moving in from the East.  The weather held off and the fireworks were a success.
