The Melissa Sink Memorial Poker Run will be held Sunday, June 22nd. Registration will be from 9:15 until 10:15 at T. J. Fatboy’s just north of Rocky Mount on Virgil Goode Highway, and participants will leave at 10:30. The run will end at the Franklin County Recreation Park.
Events at the Franklin County Recreation Park will get underway at 1 P.M. and there will be food, music and activities for people of all ages. Music will be provided by "Whiskey River".
Melissa Sink was killed in an automobile accident June 3, 2006. She was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the accident and her family wants to promote seat belt safety to help prevent other deaths. To help educate the public and remind our community members of this, the "Seat Belt Convincer" will be on site and the Virginia State Police will be there with " DUI goggles" to give people an idea of how responsiveness is altered when you drive under the influence.
Other activities will include raffles, a visit from Crash Dummies Vince and Larry, and the kids will enjoy a visit from Snapdragon.
Melissa’s family has established a scholarship in her memory and has awarded more than $3000 in scholarships to Franklin County students in the past two years. They invite you to share a pleasant Sunday afternoon with friends and neighbors while supporting an important cause.
