The Southern Virginia Child Advocacy Center hosts "Picnic in the Park".
Picnic in the Park, a fun-filled day of games, food, and activities for the whole family, will be held on Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Mary Elizabeth Park in downtown Rocky Mount . The event will include "old timey" games like Red Rover and tag, craft making, face painting, a giant inflatable slide, food, carnival games, prizes, and much more. "This event is a wonderful opportunity for families to come together with the television off and really enjoy each other", stated Joyce Moran, Executive Officer of the Southern VA Child Advocacy Center, "Healthy communication is the key to a healthy family and the activities included in this event are designed with that in mind. We have so many wonderful community partners working with us on this that there is sure to be something for everyone!"
Activities and displays include an art project sponsored and run by The Art Museum of Western Virginia, an informational booth and prize wheel from Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital, coupons from Dairy Queen, Smokey the Bear from the Department of Forestry, a fire truck from the Franklin County Fire Department, the Franklin County Library Book Mobile, McGruff from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, free balloons from Franklin County Respiratory Rentals, ice cream from Homestead Creamery, wood craft projects from Lowes Home Improvement, coupons from McDonald’s and Rocky Mount Bowling Center, fingerprinting by the Rocky Mount Town Police Department, hot dog plates cooked and served by Rocky Mount Rotary Club and Franklin Minute Market, gift bags from SunTrust Bank, saplings provided by the Vaughn Bassett Company, coupons from Wendy’s, and carnival games provided by the YMCA.
The cost for the event is $2 per person admission. Hot dog plates are $3 each. All proceeds will benefit the Southern VA Child Advocacy Building Fund. For additional information on the event or to volunteer please call the SVCAC at 540-484-5566.
