Drama students at Franklin County High School presented the musical "Ragtime" March 12th through March 15th at the Franklin County High School Auditorium. Based on the best selling 1975 novel written by E.L. Doctorow, "Ragtime" is a stage musical adaptation that tells the story of three American families in the early 1900's.
"Ragtime" introduces us to a Harlem musician, the mother of a white middle class family and a Jewish Latvian immigrant. Initially it seems that each of the families represented are very different and have nothing in common. As their individual stories unfold, their lives become entwined and impact one another on a very personal level as we are reminded of the issues and struggles of power, race and immigration in the 1900's. The story includes appearances by historical figures such as Emma Goldman, Harry Houdini, Booker T. Washington, J.P. Morgan and Evelyn Nesbit.
Under the direction of Emily Tucker, the drama students did a phenomenal job presenting the thought provoking topics that made this musical an entertaining, yet powerful production.
