A reality show featuring Smith Mountain Lake is airing on national television June 17.

The “House Hunters” show on the HGTV network is set to air Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at 10 p.m. on HGTV, a network popular with homeowners. HGTV provides advice on buying, selling, redecorating and remodeling. The episode airs again at 2 a.m. on June 18.

The Smith Mountain Lake episode features a husband and wife from Washington, D.C., Craig and Patricia Merrills, who want to purchase a weekend getaway home somewhere on a waterfront. On the show, which was filmed last fall, the Merrills look at three competing homes and, in the final moments, reveal which one they selected.

Paul Moore, a local real estate agent with Wainwright and Company, is featured on the show. Moore is author of “The Definitive Guide to Smith Mountain Real Estate.”

Smith Mountain Lake was selected for the show by Pie Town Productions, the show’s producer, after a national search. “I was hiking with my son in the mountains when I first received a call from Pie Town,” Moore stated.  “I was a bit stunned, to say the least. They said they were doing a weeklong special of waterfront homes to include oceanfront, river, beachfront and a lake home. Smith Mountain Lake was chosen as the lake destination.”

Pie Town Productions had looked for a lake with panoramic scenery and a variety of waterfront homes. Katie Hall, field producer for the show, found Moore’s website, www.SmithMountainHomes.com, which features a photo gallery. “They were impressed. But they were stunned when they viewed the lake in person during their shoots onsite last fall,” Moore said.

After conversations with Moore, the producers selected him as the agent for the episode. Moore’s Smith Mountain Homes Realty was already working with the Merrills, who seemed to be a perfect fit. “They own a number of D.C.-area businesses, and were searching for a waterfront home on the lake in Bedford County.”Moore talked to the couple, who jumped at the opportunity to be on the show.

“House Hunters” filmed the Merrills at their D.C. home and then followed them on their search with Moore at Smith Mountain Lake. The episode features them looking at three competing homes and, in the final moments, revealing which one they selected. The show includes shots of the lake and the community from the ground and by boat.
