The SML Visitor Center — at Bridgewater Plaza at the Hales Ford Bridge -- is an official State of Virginia Tourist Information Center and is the center point for distributing a myriad of general information about the area, recreational options, housing and all things lake-related. The office is also home to the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce which represents more than 780 members.
Currently 33 people volunteer their time to work at the facility. New volunteers are encouraged to add their talents to the ranks – be it to welcome locals and tourists or to assist with one of the major events sponsored by the Smith Mountain Lake Chamber each year. John Crounse is the Chamber’s volunteer coordinator and weekend manager.
The three signature events slated for 2008 hosted by the SML Chamber include the recently-held (Friday, April 25) Business EXPO; the 20th Anniversary Smith Mountain Lake Wine Festival (Saturday and Sunday, September 27 and 28) and the Sixth-Annual Chili Festival (Saturday, November 1).
